Signs Of A Faulty Septic System

I thought I had a septic problem when my toilet and sink wasn't draining properly. This suspicion was confirmed when sewer water started backing up in my bathtub. I figured that this was a job for a professional, so I called a local sewer service company. Sure enough, my septic tank was full and this was causing the problem. After having my tank pumped out, my drains run freely and my toilet flushes better than it has in a long time. My name is Wesley Hammond and the experience that I had with my septic system is the reason that I'm writing this blog. Since sewage backup in the house is very unhealthy, everyone should be aware of the signs of a faulty septic system. As you read these articles, you'll learn about the different types of septic system problems and how you can keep them from happening.

Tips To Help Keep Your Kitchen Drain Clean And Smelling Fresh

by Jacob Reed

If you're like most people, you probably put just about everything down your kitchen sink drain. Rinse paint brushes in the sink, pour the bacon grease down the sink, and probably even a few large food particles accidentally get washed down the sink drain too, right? All of these items can clog your drain and make it smell like a stinky garbage heap, rather than a kitchen sink. This is a place you wash your dishes and near where you probably prepare food -- not a place you want stinky smells. See below for tips to help keep your drain clean and smelling fresh.

Avoid Clogs

Avoid clogs in your sink by properly disposing of food and other items. Rinse paintbrushes outside in a bucket rather than in the sink. Pour bacon or sausage grease into a sealable glass container and allow it to harden in the refrigerator. Use that grease to cook with later, rather than putting it down the drain. Also be sure to use the sink stopper to catch larger food particles. You can invest in a garbage disposal to help chop up those larger particles of food as well. Make sure that pieces of paper towel don't go down the drain, in addition to other items that don't belong in the drain, as these can build up and cause clogs.

Clean Your Drains

You can clean your drains yourself without the need to dismantle the drain pipes. All you need is white vinegar and baking soda to clean your drain and have it smelling fresh again. Take 1/2 cup of baking soda and pour it into your drain. Next, pour 1 cup of vinegar into the drain and let it sit for 10 - 20 minutes. Then rinse the drain out with hot water. This will take the smell out of your drain. If you have a garbage disposal, use chopped lemons and water in an ice cube tray. Allow them to freeze and place a few of those lemon ice cubes in the garbage disposal. The ice helps sharpen the blades, while the lemons help give you a better smell.

Clear Drain Clogs

If you happen to have a clog in your drain, you can make your own clog remover at home using some household ingredients. Use your vinegar and baking soda mixture and let it sit for at least 30 minutes. Follow it with boiling hot water rather than just hot tap water. The boiling water should help push the clog out.

It can be costly to call out a plumber to have your drains cleaned or to have a clog removed. Prevent it from happening by watching what you put into your drains and disposing of food and other items properly. But if your drains become clogged anyways, calling a company like P Murray Contractors Ltd drain cleaning sooner rather than later is a wise choice.
